Stress informationVetsian stress is fixed to the one of the last two syllables, as defined by moraic values. A CV syllable is zero morae, CVC is one mora, CVCC or CVY (where VY is a diphthong) is two morae, and CVCCC or CVYC(C)(C) is three morae. If the moraic value of the penult and final syllable are the same or the final syllable has a higher moraic value than the penult, then the final syllable receives the stress. If the penult has a higher moraic value, then the penult receives stress.
The suffixed definite article, as well as any clitics and the comparative/superlative prefix nu-, do not affect stress placement.
When stressed, /ə/ is usually pronounced [ɤ].
