The length of any word within Nuudiri language is determined by its first syllable. The first syllable is either CV, or CVV or CVV'. Examples: "ro", "vuu", "liu". It is disputable to state that "liu" is made of one syllable rather than two since it sounds like "li-u". However, for simplicity, one maintains such phrasing.
Any well-formed WORD in Nuudiri must obey the following recognition rules:
- WORD = W1 / W2 / W3 / W4
- W1 = (C V)
- W2 = (C $X $Y) (C $Y) ; with the constraint: ($X $Y) = (VA VE) / (VE VA)
- W3 =(C $X $X) (C V) (C V) ; with the constraint: $X = VA
- W4 = (C $X $X) (C V) (C V) (C V) ; with the constraint: $X = VE
- C = "d" / "h" / "j" / "k" / "l" / "m" / "n" / "p" / "r" / "s" / "t" / "v"
- V = "a" / "e" / "i" / "o" / "u"
- VA = "a" / "o" / "u"
- VE = "e" / "i"
The recognition rules are using the following formalism:
- Each sign "=" defines a recognition rule.
- The sign "/" separates alternatives.
- The parentheses "( )" are grouping terms.
- The prefix "$" identifies a variable involved in a constraint.
