[comments] [history] When the four Houses of Berda'án formed the Felméye Union after centuries of conflicts and somewhat frequent warfare, the appointed administrators quickly stumbled upon the issue of language. The continent speaks, to this day, mainly four mostly unintelligible languages: Lotrenusín, Merhnusín, Nogonusín and Elsinusín - not accounting for Meyenusin, which is not the official language of any state. It would be highly impractical for all officials to become fluent in all four regional languages and unwise not to, while picking only one of the four as the de facto official language could be seen as a provocation against the native speakers of the other three tongues.

It was at this point when four academics with expertise in everything lingual regarding the continent stepped in with an unforeseen proposition: to create a new language, an artifice of experts rather than a product of cultural evolution. They already had rough plans for that language, as well as a name: Fyehnusín, or tongue of the Fyeh. While such an errand might have seemed futile to most, the heads of the four Houses were intrigued by the notion of an artificial language that would be spoken by everyone in the entire continent under the rule of the Union. Fyehnusín promised not only to facilitate official matters but also to unite the separate-minded peoples of Berda’an, whose cultural differences could not have suddenly disappeared immediately after the Felméye treaty was signed.

After months of research and experimentation, the ambitious academics completed the first functional version of the language and presented it to the administrators. Fyehnusín was not necessarily a simple language, at least not for the Fyeh, but it was unambiguous enough and could express complicated ideas with ease: a perfect fit for government use, yet it was unclear whether it could fulfill its promise to become not only an official tongue but also a koine.

A few of decades after the adoption of Fyehnusín as the official language of the Felméye Union, the locals of each region still use their regional tongues for the most part, but the new generations have been raised bilingual. The unfettered cultural exchange between the various corners of Berda’án might eventually lead into a convergence of their native tongues, but until then they have a useful tool to communicate with each other symmetrically. Despite its shortcomings, Fyehnusín has been commended by political analysts due to it being a major factor in the stabilisation of the political landscape in the continent and, furthermore, its creators have been presented with the greatest honours for their contributions to the newly found state.
