Palatalized consonants, when not expressing their own grapheme, usually are matched by their plain equivalent with the addition of an acute accent. These formed by a series of sound changes: the introduction of an epenthetical /i/ in between consonant clusters, the merging of /i/ and preceding consonants in unstressed syllables, and the movement of alveolar and velar palatalized consonants to the palatal series.
