[top]Welcome! Háhàge!

Welcome to the ConWorkShop Iaskyon course.
In this course, you will learn about the characteristics of Iaskyon, try to get the feel of the language, and learn to communicate with basic words and phrases.
After this first lesson, you will have an idea of greetings and self-introduction in Iaskyon.
Ready?

[top]What is Iaskyon?

Iaskyon is a Yosic language spoken in the Free Land of Ias (or Iaskáca for short), and the Republic of Mlaken. Combined there are about 30 million speakers.
Iaskyon is a ergative-absolutive language, it is also agglutinative, but only mildly so. The word order is SOV, as in languages such as Japanese and Korean.

Writing system
The language is usually written in the Iaswü script, an alphasyllabary. For convenience, standard romanisation will be used in this course. You will see letters such as þ, ç, ş, ő, and ű appearing. Their uses and pronunciation will be introduced later. Do not panic, as spelling in Iaskyon is quite phonetic.

Dialects
Dialectal variation is relatively mild, although lects in the hills in Northern Mlaken could be more conservative and difficult to understand. The written and spoken language are relatively similar.
