[top]Summary

The Pozdewk language only has four cases applying to nouns, which don't include accusative, and that is pretty rare in a language using declinations. But although there are few cases, they are used in much more situations than the common declinating languages like German or Latin. You can see the declination table for nouns ending with a vowel here and the one for the nouns ending with a consonant there. This is the list of all cases.
  • Nominative
  • Genitive
  • Referential (or imputive)
  • Essive

[top]Using genitive

1. The genitive is used, just like in english, to express the possession.

"The cat's toy" = o stelebil et emáa' - o stelebɪɫ et emɑ̤jɑ

2. Be careful to use it as well in proper nouns.

"Terews Forest" = Bokÿalmkaw Terewsa' - bokɕɑlm̩kʰɒw teɾewsɑ
3. It is also employed with the indirect object, for concrete actions (to give, to feed, to kill, to touch etc.).
"I give to the cat" = enelistais et emáa' - enelɪstɑjs et emɑ̤jɑ "I give to the cat its toy" = enelistais et emáa' o stelebil hiowğ - enelɪstɑjs et emɑ̤jɑ o stelebɪɫ ʁ̩jowk
[top]Using referential
1. The referential is applied on any noun we are talking about.
"It is about the cat" = wtéis os emás' - təjs os emɑ̤s

2. It is used as well with the indirect object, for abstract actions (to think of, to remember, to dream about etc.).

"I think about the cat" = astais os emás' - ɑstɑjs os emɑ̤s
[top]Using essive
1. The essive declination is mostly used to compare with the quality of something.
"Like the cat" = om emáihÿ' - om emɑ̤jç

[top]Possible confusions

Be careful not to confuse vablais hiowğ ("I talk to you") and vablais hiowky ("I talk about you").

[top]Adjectives and declinations

Adjectives can't get any declination, but they have an oblique case that is not an ending. it's a conjunction that you must add just before the adjective if the noun related to it is declinated : h. In the following example, noun is blue, adjective is orange, genitive is red and oblique is green.

"the sum of the human wisdom" = o ÿort et anuwaa' h aḡelhwat - /o ʑoɾt et ɑnuʋɑjɑ ʁ̩ ɑg͡ʝelʍɑt/
