English pronunciation: /məli:tiən/ or /məli:ʃən/
Melitian is a Romance language spoken on the island of Malta by a small community concentrated near the Xaghra area on the island of Goxo. It is endangered, especially as many of its 300 or so speakers are above the age of 50. Compared to other Romance languages, it split significantly earlier from Latin and maintains some grammatical features not found in other Romance languages.
