About Drakish
This is a personal project of mine with its roots in 2011, when I read a biography of JRR Tolkien and decided that making up a language sounded like fun. I started working on an early form of Drakish to go with the dragon characters I wrote about in my stories. At first, it was entirely logographic, meaning one word = one character. As expected, this was increasingly difficult for me as I had absolutely no system of organization due to not having any kind of experience with a real character language. I revised it a few times, trying to figure out some kind of organization while still keeping the essence of my designs. At this point, I added in determinatives. Then, in 2014, I decided to revamp the whole thing and work on a syllabic alphabet instead. The determinatives stayed, and so did some of my favorite monosyllabic characters through the classification of them as an exception to the syllable-building rule. And I’ve been working on it since.
A conscript font is in progress, although both it and the language are still a long way from completion. There are many coding errors involved with the font in the dictionary, so just stick to the romanized spellings for now.
