GENERAL FACTS

Duryk (Duryk: dуrykvolźu Durykvolźu) is a language spoken in  Durykia, which is an archipelago situated north of Qgam, west of Ngeyvger, and east of Akamyokulta. It is related to the Minninnian spoken in Western Koize.

Written Duryk is, syntax- and grammar-wise, significantly different than spoken Duryk due to its high grammatical complexity. Oftentimes, in Spoken Duryk, crasis may be ignored and affixes may be treated as particles.

FEATURES

  • Grammatical, verbal ablauts happens all the time.
  • Crasis (occurs when affixing)
  • 14 noun declensions
  • Base-20 number system; numbers are suffixed to words.
  • Verb and adjective conjugations rely on both the subject and the object (ergative and absolutive).
  • 440 possible verb and adjective conjugations (not including number suffixes)
  • Consonant within large clusters get silenced.
  • Syntax is very flexible in written Duryk. However, the spoken language usually follows an SOV pattern with the verb always staying at the end.
  • The alphabet descended from the Qgamic Traditional Script.
  • There are up consonants and down consonants, which affect how the proceeding vowels are written.
