About Elranonian Elranonian is an Indo-European-inspired naturalistic language, spoken by millions of people in a fictional world. Despite of it being a part of a fictional world, Elranonian has a number of internationalisms borrowed from various (primarily, European) real-world languages, which are only to be used in a real-world setting and avoided in the fictional one.

Elranonian has a lot of variation within phonology and phonetics, grammar, and vocabulary between regional dialects, sociolects, and registers. (This is chiefly due to the fact that I often cannot choose which options I prefer, so I include all of them, attributing the variation to sociolinguistical reasons rather than finding structural explanations.)

Within the Indo-European-esque framework, I mostly draw inspiration from modern (and classical) European languages, which can be demonstrated by the following examples:
  • usage of letters Ää, Öö, Åå, with Oo being often pronounced high and Uu fronted (Swedish);
  • extensive usage of h-digraphs (bh, ch &c.), with an acute accent (Áá) indicating historically long vowels (Irish; although these historically long vowels have turned into diphthongs in Modern Elranonian);
  • intervocalic lenition of voiced stops into approximants (Spanish);
  • a boring 5-case system (Nom., Acc., Gen., Dat., Loc.), with adpositions governing specific cases (Germanic, Slavic languages, Greek, Latin…);
  • analytical constructions involving a preposition and a non-finite verb (Celtic languages; WIP);
  • both nominal and verbal inflection using principal parts, with there being multiple declension and, possibly (WIP), conjugation patterns (Latin, Ancient Greek);
  • great sociolinguistical variation (English, German, Spanish…);
  • the list goes on...

Staying conscious of my approach, I aim at creating a naturalistic language with a general European feel.
