About Massaliote
By far the most famous of the Ionic Languages, Massaliote is spoken along the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, from the Pyrenees, where it overlaps with the closely related Empurian, to the Alps, where it meets the tongue of the Etruscans.
Like all other Ionic Languages, it is descended from the language brought over by the earliest Phocaean settlers, and thus it wasn't particularly affected by either Koine Greek or any of the further developments that took place in the Aegean. Naturally, this means Massaliote speakers are largely unable to understand their eastern cousins.
