About Mazaeki Mazaeki has an unusual phonological inventory with no phonemic stops but plenty of fricatives, a mainly bilabial-alveolar-palatal place of articulation contrast, and a three-step vertical vowel system featuring front/back vowel allophony based on surrounding consonants. It also has a not-great romanization. You're welcome.

Its syntax is also bizarre; it is a hierarchical language categorized by argument proximity (to the speaker, at the time of the described event). Verbs agree with the proximity of one argument, either subject or direct object, depending on verb class. These classes are based on the impact against the direct object.

PRMNPermanitive (effect)
object of verb is thematic/unaffected
verbs agree with the agent's proximity ; IMPCImpactive (effect)
object is patient (impacted or changed)
and DIRCDirective (effect)
object is a destination or recipient
verbs with the patient/destination. The agent of patient-marking verbs can be unmarked ; vice versa is true for the patient of agent-marking verbs. Intransitive verbs have no agreement (exception: impersonal verbs may be marked with proximity of the zero argument). Patient-marking verbs can be considered pluractional.
