About Maari
Spoken by the Marians living around the original island where the species emerged, this language is considered, perhaps arrogantly, to have diverged the least from Proto-Marian. This is probably not true.
This language is not actually written as presented (which is full of ugly diacritics), but is transcribed as seen here for ease. Human researchers have not had the opportunity to see the script used by the Maari [Note: the conscript is in the works].
Setting note: The planet is an Earth-like planet settled initially by space-faring humans thousands of years into the future who then managed to screw up and enter a technological dark-age for thousands of years, developing various societies from the dregs as they travelled and explored a planet (presumed by most to be their point of origin) now mostly overrun with invasive species from Earth. Certain incidents and unfortunate encounters with higher sapient lifeforms (probably some type of alien) led to weird split-off species like the Marians.
The phonology is a guess about what sort of sounds could theoretically be distinguished and articulated when water is the medium of transmission as opposed to air.
