About Proto-Afro-Eurasiatic The descendant of an ancient language spoken in the Upper Paleolithic era, Proto-Afro-Eurasiatic is the linguistic common ancestor of most language families of North Africa, the Eurasian continent, and the far north of the American continent. Though it is now extinct, speakers of its daughter languages number in the hundreds of millions. It is very distantly related to a few Amerindian languages and, slightly more closely, to the Austronesian and Austroasiatic languages.
