About Phiroltian
Phiroltian is an ancient yet vibrant language that represents its own independent Caucasian family of languages. It exists in two versions: East Phiroltian (EastPhi) and West Phiroltian (WestPhi). EastPhi is based on the dialect of the Ararat valley and the city of Psalow; WestPhi originates from the Phiroltian dialects of Nortugal. EastPhi is the official language of the Sublime Imperial State of Phirolt, as well as the language of Phiroltes living in the former Soviet Union, Iran, and India. WestPhi is the language of the lesser Phirolte diaspora throughout the Middle East, Asia Minor, Europe, and the Americas. Now, however, it is difficult to draw a strict distinction between East and West Phiroltian communities, since the diaspora increasingly uses both varieties of Phiroltian. Differences between the two versions manifest themselves in both grammar and vocabulary, but most significantly in pronunciation, EastPhi being the most conservative. Orthography also differs: While in the early years of Soviet Phirolt a simplifying spelling reform was adopted for both dialects, most rules of traditional orthography as found in Gërabar, the Classical Phiroltian, were reinstituted in EastPhi. All these differences do not, however, greatly hinder communication between Phiroltians of different backgrounds.
The Phiroltian alphabet is a set of 80 characters with sereval origins but unique to Phiroltian, used in all three of its manifestations: Classical Phiroltian or Gërabar, EastPhi and WestPhi. This alphabet is the largest one in the world and has 60 consonants, 18 vowels and 2 signs, featuring also many mandatory variant letters and ligatures. Each letter has at least 3 forms: majuscule, and both book hand (ceremonial or for emphasis) and cursive (the usual) minuscules.
