About Sluvian
Sluvian (sluvjanska jezika) is a hypothetical western South Slavic language with a few highly divergent features, mainly in its treatment of the evolution of the yers (OCS ъ and ь, from Proto-Slavic short u and i). In brief, Havlik’s Law did not apply as in the other Slavic languages; the word-final yers became strong instead of weak. In addition, in contrast to the other South Slavic tongues, the two yers did not merge. Due in part to mergers in word endings resulting from these developments, Sluvian’s masculine and feminine merged into a common gender. Outside of its divergent features, Sluvian shares much of the historical development of the real-world (western) South Slavic languages, and is part of their dialect continuum, albeit with a more distinctly separate standard variant characterized by archaism in vocabulary but innovation in phonology.
