About Cosmic Faux Tongue Eldritch abominations, cosmic horrors, godlike monstrosities beyond our comprehension. What are they saying? How do we talk to them? Such knowledge is essential for anyone wishing to conduct business with our mysterious friends, and here it is provided.

While our feeble human ears and minds will never be able to truly process all of the sounds exuding from their... vocal tracts, they have at least given us enough information to communicate with them and join in conversation. We'll always sound a bit lacking to them, yes, but something is better than nothing, right?

Here I catalogue to the best of my ability the closest approximation of the text and pronunciation of "Cosmic Olde Tongue" that humanity could ever hope to attempt to emulate.

Note: All speech must be articulated with both ingressive (↓) uvular fricatives simultaneously when formal, velar fricative ɣ↓ and uvular fricative χ↓ when formality is inapplicable, and an in between combination of both ingressive pharyngeal fricatives ħ↓ and ʕ↓ when neutral or informal. This is layered onto the base speech, which, unless something said is explicitly informal, is paired throughout the speech with a continuous ingressive epiglottal fricative. Whether said fricative is voiced or voiceless depends on what's more comfortable for the speaker; when formal, use the voiced one, otherwise use the voiceless one and/or its phonetically unmarked sintegret counterpart. If the sentence ends/begins with an exclamation mark, begin and end the first and last words of said sentence with uvular oversintegret ʛ↓↓.

See the phonological system of The Else for context.

Phonology
[view]Phonological System: The ElseAncient is an understatement; eldritch is not completely accurate. These creatures have existed since both before and after time had any bearing on this universe's functions. To them, it is not unidirectional. It is not bidirectional either. It is both non and multidirectional and the quantity of its directions decrease and increase based on what they are doing, while its number of directions is able to differ even to the same individual simultaneously. The Else are not bound by the same physical laws as we are. They are bound only by their own will, capable of being simultaneously more than infinitely imaginative and less than nothing. Conveniently for us, however, many of them speak with sound.

Their IPA chart is very similar to the human one in that it includes almost all human sounds, with some of the impossible sounds and nearly every conceivable ingressive sound. A subclass of consonants known as "sintegrets" also exists, along with several superposition and imperceptible-to-the-human-ear vowels. A notable consequence of their way of time perception is that no Elsaein language has a way to represent future tense, as such a concept simply does not exist to their kind.

This IPA chart of The Else does not apply to non sound based Elsaein languages and does not encompass all sound based Elsaein languages (including and especially those that incorporate non-sound), as there are unfortunately not enough tables allowed to represent them.

For sake of convenience, ingressive portions of text are represented surrounded by parenthesis with a ↓ on the left side, while egressive portions of text are represented with a ↑, also on the left. Individual letters are still represented as is standard.
