About Thedish NOTE: Updates to this conlang's vocabulary are hosted here. New translations and such will be hosted on this page.

Thedish, specifically Pacific Low Thedish, is a Germanic-inspired a posteriori constructed language spoken in the western prefectures of Japan.

LORE

Thedish is a West Germanic language, closely related to other Germanic languages such as Dutch, German, and English, with its speakers originating around the modern-day Dutch province of Friesland. What would later become Old Thedish (OT: Alda Þiudisc, /ˈɑldɑ ˈt͡θiu̯disk/) branched off of Proto-West-Germanic around the 7th Century CE.

By the 11th Century CE, Thedish sea-faring merchants began trading with Japan via the port city of Nagasaki. Overtime, some Thedes would choose to settle in and around the city, creating a small Thedish-majority settlement dubbed New Thedeland City (Thedish: Nuizuidlandtosse; Japanese: ニューツードランド市, Nyūtsūdorando-shi). With the new city, Thedish started intaking many Japanese loanwords, mainly in terms of business and government, evolving into Middle Thedish (MT: Tjûdaiice Zŷdisc, /ˈtjuːdai̯ikɜ ˈt͡syːdiɕk/). A modified form of Japanese Katakana would be adopted to write the language, becoming standard alongside the original Latin script (i.e. チュウダイイケ ズゥィディㇲㇰ, Tjuudaiike Zuuidisk).

Shortly after the 14th Century CE, similar to English, Middle Thedish experienced its own vowel shift, changing the qualities of long vowels (i.e. /uː/ > /ɔu̯/, /ie̯/ > /iː/, /ou̯, ʊː/ > /uː/, etc.). Modern Thedish (MT: Cinduiice Zuidisc, /ˈkɪndɛi̯ɪkə ˈt͡sɛi̯dɪʃ/) came about by the end of the vowel shift in the 18th Century CE. Currently, New Thedeland City holds about 50,000 native speakers and 3000 L2 speakers of Thedish.
