[top]Where is Syunga spoken?

Syunga is and ancient language spoken in my conworld, known to speakers of  Syunga as 'ixenopel'. It is an ancient (nearly dead) predecessor of the Okesh Language family, the languages spoken by the ethnically Okeshi people in and around the Okesh desert.

[top]Who speaks Syunga?

Syunga is maintained by the most traditional religious people in the Okesh desert, who consider it the original language given to them by the gods. Many priests and healers use it is their songs and prayer, while some devout lay-people employ it in traditional worship. As well as this, particularly devout members of the aristocracy across ixenopel have been known to use the language to set themselves about the common people and to earn favour with the gods, as well as to communicate secretly.

[top]Why have I written it only in IPA?

Although various attempts have been made to recover the ancient, glyph-based writing system, none have been successful.  Syunga is a purely oral language and is thus written only is transliterated forms. For this reason I chose to present Syunga using IPA, the most widely understood method of transliteration. I have tried to keep all transliterations simple as varying pronunciation is an obvious side effect of not writing a language for thousands of years.
