Verbs in  Pearl have a stem:

There are five different stems, all of which have the same set of conjugational endings, but the stem itself undergoes different changes. This list defines what the infinitive ending looks like for each of the groups:

Group 1: ends in -la, -ta, or -ja

Group 2: ends in -le, te, or je

Group 3: ends in a consonant other than x. The majority of these are verbs that end in aï

Group 4: irregular verbs, ends in all else; some verbs that end in one of the above may also be irregular.
