The people who used the Chromatic Cave Language believed that color itself was a sacred thing, viewing it as fragments of their deity. Each color represents a different aspect of this deity.

Hieroglyphs can have many different colors, but the main color [the color most present] is that glyph's color class. Color class has nothing to do with what part of speech [noun, verb, adjective, etcetera] a hieroglyph is. [In the dictionary, every class is labeled "noun" because I couldn't put nothing.] Instead, color class gives a hint to the hieroglyph's meaning and has other grammatical functions. Mini-glyphs show part of speech, not color.
