About Cathilean
Cathilean is ths language spoken in the kingdom of Cathilea in my conworld Igamarea. Its sound is based on Welsh and Finnish, but the orthography is based on Irish. The grammar is as far as I know not based on anything.
Some grammatical features:
Some grammatical features:
- Fluid-S aligniment
- Polysynthetic
- Topic-comment word order
- Head-first
- 17 cases, 4 declensions and 2 numbers, however, only the first and the second declension are declined for number
- A kind of complicated orthography
- Adjectives can be attached directly to the noun they describe, or they can stand alone after. However, in the latter case, it has to agree with the noun in terms of both case and number.
- A LOT of morphophonolgical prosesses, featuring both umlaut and consonant lenition.
- Relative clauses are adjectivized
- Complementizer clauses are nominalized by making a coumpound noun of the object and the nominalized verb, and put it in possession of the subject (e.g. "That I eat an apple" becomes "The apple-eating of mine")
- A LOT of derivational affixes that can be used productively to form new words, or to carry grammatical information:
