About Infernal Basic
Infernal Basic is a conlang mainly meant for a webcomic project that heavily plays off of D&D, but uses the custom world I've built for most of my games in said system. My main focus because of this (and several pieces of in-story context) is on creating a relatively demonic look and an easy to use language over perfectly natural linguistics or uniquely adapting it to parallel the stereotypical stories of devils and demons making deals. Infernal Basic currently has 30 characters, however to aid with the comprehension of the comic none of these are punctuation and it is instead able to use English punctuation (as that's what the comic will primarily be written in). Polyphthongs are differentiated from vowels in the romanization with "'" in order to avoid ambiguity, there are a few other notes about romanization in a separate document to conserve space.
Of the main languages used in the eight outer planes, Infernal Basic, often shortened to simply Infernal, is one of the most "natural": Although what natural means changes rapidly as you move between the planes, the development of Infernal aligns much more closely with the development of most languages formed in the material plane. This would seem an odd trait to an outsider only familiar with the fearmongering or the now outdated moralistic depiction of our world's extraplanar structure, as Infernal shares its name with demons and the rest of hell's unique wildlife. In the outdated moralistic understanding of the super-planar structure originally proposed by Professor Reginald Regulis III more than eight hundred years ago, hell was the lowest of the six outer planes and thus it, its unique magically active languages, and its inhabitants were all inherently evil. It has since been determined that these accusations were the unfounded ramblings of a dying mind, and that their primary effect on our world has been several hundred years worth of suffering.
