Syllable StructureSyllable structure is (C)(C)(C)V[C*](C)[C*]. However, "C" may also include compressed clusters/phonemes (?), which themselves may have up to four components: the main consonant (including affricate), r/h, x, and j/w (in that order).
All clusters must have the same voicing, but may have different voicing between syllable boundaries.
Onset Clusters:
may be any combination of three consonants that would otherwise appear in a compressed cluster (not four);
s/f (or z/v if voiced) may appear after a plosive or compressed cluster (in place of j/w);
s/f (or z/v if voiced) may appear before a plosive or compressed cluster starting with a plosive;
Anything may come after r
a nasal may appear after any consonant, but never after a cluster with j, w, or non-clustered plosive;
a voiceless plosive may occur before only one other voiceless plosive or fricative.
Codas are far more heavily restricted and a bit complicated; they can by any compressible consonant, but MUST be followed by either a compressed h or x (in effect making them ejective or aspirated), or followed by r (written rh, as it behaves like a normal, uncompressed consonant). The second (C*) accounts for this one variable, which may simply be a realization of a "compressed" consonant in an environment where a non-compressed consonant cannot exist. The first (C*) is an assimilating nasal, which may otherwise be analyzed as the "nasal vowel" after another vowel.
