About Essersii
Essersii explores what type of language could come from the survival of Neo-Punic in the mountains of Tunisia into the modern day. It's based of the hypothetical scenario of a large group of Carthaginian nobles fleeing Carthage before the final Roman invasion in the Third Punic war, to live in the remote Tell Atlas with the goal of keeping their culture alive. This group remained proud of their Punic and Phoenician heritage, were well educated, and aimed to preserve their language as much as possible. However, to remain covert, they learned local Tamazight languages to appear as if they were Amazigh themselves. In the end, Essersii retains much of its original Punic/Phoenician roots, with classical Arabic and Shawiya/Kabyle Tamazight as the main foreign influences. There is also some Latin as well.
