Welcome!
Sorkish language is a wide dialect continuum spoken in the Sori Desert (Sóriban natively, lit. "Sorkish Land"), stretching from the westernmost areas (Narqérriban "Tall Sands Land") to the easternmost ones (Sarúmban "Old Land"). The literary language described on this page is based on the dialect spoken in the Sorkish capital city of Seqhanzát. Historical spelling is crazier the farther you get from there (probably) (still in the works). Due to both geographical and societal isolation, Sorkish features little to no loan words and influences from other languages.
Main inspiration came from Arabic, Berber and Turkic languages, as well as Georgian.
- phonemic stress
- agglutinative with some fusional features
- split-ergative in perfective aspect
- polypersonal agreement, 6 verb classes, 8 moods (+ several "subordinating" moods, think causative mood in inuit languages) and 5 aspects
- three degrees of remoteness in past tense, two in future tense
- weird stem changes in declension, derivation and word creation in general (e.g. wiráz "friend" > wirzá "friendly")
- syllabic liquids and nasals :)
