About Alsora Sector Common Alsora Common (Thos·ii es Al·sor·ə es = held_in_common ABLAblative (case)

Alsora ABLAblative (case)
away from
, or informally just Thos·ii) is the official lingua franca of the Alsora Sector, and a member of the Galactic Common language family.

Free word order, lots of circumfixes (circumpositions and case/POS markers), no verb tense or voice.

Fluid-S alignment replaces verb voice: passive constructions are expressed by putting the intransitive argument in the accusative case. Some verbs normally use this construction for an intransitive, active meaning, and then the usual active construction as their causative.

A word can be any part of speech depending on the circumfixes around it.

There are a lot of long compound words, but the morphemes are space-separated by convention so this is not immediately obvious; look to the circumfixes to find word boundaries. Compounds are head-final.

The casual spoken form is evolving toward straight up polysynthetic, more on that here.

Also it pisses me off that the capital form of ə isn't ∃, so in this language it is.

Why the interpuncts between syllables?

1) reduce ambiguity: distinguishes c·h /ts.h/ from ch /tʃ/, x·h /dz.h/ from xh /dʒ/, g·h /g.h/ from gh /ɣ/, k·h /k.h/ from kh /x/, n·g /n.g/ from ng /ŋ/, etc.

2) stress depends on syllable boundaries: penultimate EXCEPT ultimate if the penultimate syllable is open with a short vowel, and whether it's open/closed is shown by where the interpunct is. for example, thos·ii ("common property, Common language") is pronounced with stress on the first syllable, while tho·sii ("meteor") is pronounced with stress on the second syllable.
