About Old Shyorian
The oldest stage of Shyorian.
The Shyoric languages (dlwri, dlleurhi) form their own branch of South Osveraali due to their extremely idiosyncratic sound changes especially in the consonant inventory, where numerous phonemes are found that are unknown in other Osveraali languages. Especially striking is the large inventory of lateral and velar affricates that result from palatalised and velarised consonants.
Old Shyorian is the oldest written language of Atsiq - its first attestations date to roughly 850 AD - and was an important lingua franca in the southeast of the continent for centuries. Its administrative, religious and philosophical vocabulary forms the basis of much of the Imperial Osveraali terminology that has been borrowed into other Atsiq languages, and it has had massive influence on the Osveraalic languages Kharagiri and Kepran.
The Shyorian writing system, which is mixed logographic-alphabetic and one of the most complicated scripts of Sahar, derives from the same source as the Osveraali sanapata alphabet but has gone through an evolution of its own. A symbol of pride for the Shyorian people, it remains in use until the present day.
