Welcome to the Khalik language page!
Khalik (natively халықча or халық тел) is a Turkic language of the Central Kipchak branch spoken primarily in East Kazakhstan Region, with a minority in Pavlodar Region, by about 600,000 people, which are mostly older citizens. It is closely related to Bashkir and Tatar and has large quantities of Arabic/Persian borrowings, but, due to its proximity to Russia, it has absorbed many Russian loanwords, as well as Mongolic and Altai ones, mostly through Tuvan. The language is currently written in Cyrillic but is scheduled to switch to Latin by 2025, hence a romanization is provided for each entry in the dictionary.

Current features:
- SOV, vowel harmony
- 2 numbers, 6 cases
- Fuck ton of aspects, like seriously
- Three tenses
- Participles that are more inflected than nouns...
- Awful derivation
There are several features that make Khalik distinct from other Turkic languages, which include the development of special case forms after nouns ending in a vowel, the collapse of many distinct variants of endings that depend on final consonants, and the lack of the izafe noun form.

Stress informationStress is generally on the final syllable:
һазан [hɑˈzɑ̃n] "sazan"
тозақ [tʰo̞ˈzɑq] "snare"
астыртын [ɑstʰɯrˈtʰɯn] "secret"
марһүм [mɑrˈhỹm] "deceased"
There are a couple exceptions to this:
Certain affixes, mainly derivational ones, cannot be stressed (most notably -чи/-чы, -ли/-лы, and -лек/-лық):

жирли [ˈd͡ʒɪrɫɪ] "local"
чағылдырлық [t͡ʃɑɣɯɫˈd̥ɯrɫɯq] "reflection"
Also, loanwords, mostly Russian ones, will preserve their original stress:
тарелка [tʰɑˈre̞ɫkʰɑ] "plate"
фармакология [fɑrmɑkʰo̞ˈɫo̞kɪjɑ] "pharmacology"
директор [tɪˈre̞ktʰo̞r] "director"
And there are of course words that simply have different stress:
дөя [ˈtø̞jɑ] "camel"
күсе [ˈkʰyse̞] "rat"
нуқта [ˈnʊqtʰɑ] "halter"
